House Makeover: Living Room

To understand how much we HATED the living that came with the house you have to see the pictures. It's the only way to understand my pain. LOL

The color of the wall is some kind of  "baby-poop green". Dropped ceiling. A built in book shelf in some kind of grey color. A carpet that smelled like there were dogs peeing on it. Washed out hardwood floors and paneling on some of the walls

It's not a fake brick wall (but is not real either) Is some kind of brick "tile". A vent in the middle of nowhere. You can't see it but one of the ceiling tiles is actually a fluorescent light. YUCK!

So the process to fixing this room started a while back. I have Arachnophobia and that light had a few of those things dead in it. So it HAD to come out soon.
There was no light aside from that in this room and it was pretty dark.

We (My hubby) got rid of the dropped ceiling and raised it, added some sheet rock and a light in the middle of the living room. Those zebra blankets are gone, they were horrible (I don't know what I was thinking when I bought them)

New walls too, the paneling was just awful, so now is just sheet rock. New hardwood floors, there was nothing wrong with the floor that was there before but it was very light, it seemed like they tried to match it to the dinning room flooring but it was not quite right. By "they" I mean the previous owners.

There's a new layout for the living room furniture now because we added a new wall... Without the wall it was VERY cold in the living room area. I had to keep the heat of the house around 74 F so it would feel fairly warm (It felt like 68F)

So that space that was the entrance now will be the mudroom and a laundry room.
The laundry room is a future project, for now it will stay in the basement until is warm enough to make a hole in the wall for the vents and pipes.
The division of both rooms is right in the middle.

All that painters tape on the floor was to help us know exactly the sizes of the rooms and where we needed to start building walls.
It was kinda tight in there to take a picture so excuse the hand. But you get an idea of the new wiring for the laundry room lights (There's 2 of them now because there's no natural light)

The hubby painting the new wall.

So the door opens both ways. And it allows some extra light to come in because there's only 2 windows in the living room. The big white square (that now is purple) is for a TV. The hubby want's a 60" TV and I think that after so much work he deserves it.

The shelves he built are wood from a dresser we had that we didn't need anymore (and wasn't worth selling because it was about to fall apart)

I know! Is not finished... Still working on it.
I get very distracted very fast, so I do a little here and a little there.

The shelves need to be painted white. I need to find a place for that Wii board, it always seems to be in the way. There's 2 little picture frames of the children in the family. I just need pictures of the other kids to be sent to me and printed.

Back to talking about the room. We need to add doors to the bottom of the shelves (to hide all that junk that needs to be kept close to the TV). The cords for the TV and the devices go through some holes that we made (you can see one of them on the white side) That way there's no ugly cords all over the place (but there are a ton of them in the laundry room side)

Pretty picture of the not-finished future laundry room. The holes are from where the TV cables come through. Eventually they will be covered with shelves and stuff. (I hope)
