I met a gringo! ... I think I'm in love

People always asks us how we met. Is that a common thing to ask when you just met a couple?

-Hi, nice to meet you. What's your name and how did you guys meet?

We met on 2008 on Facebook. Yes, I know. Weird. We didn't really plan on meeting in person, at least not at first.
He sent me a message and I replied. I think he liked my broken English, I had to use a translator every time I wanted to talk to him.
I remember how hard it was to talk. To say anything at all. I also remember when I called him a Gringo and he flipped out. LOL. It took me so long to explain what it meant in my country (I didn't know that in other spanish speaking countries it was more of an insult) Can you imagine insulting somebody without even knowing and not being able to talk without a translator. Man! that was a long ass fight.

Our first picture.
And for those of you who still think that Mexicans are the only latinos, where I come from it just means that you have blond hair and blue eyes. So even the people that was born and raised there, we call them Gringos. I think is more like a nick name.

Having two different cultures come together is hard, and I think is even harder when there's a big language barrier.

We have been together for over 5 years and we still have problem talking to each other. Mainly because there's some words in spanish that don't have an english equivalent. We manage, somehow we have made it this far. But we've had our share of problems. Like most married couples everything is peachy when you first meet until you live together. I do think we have come a long way from where we were when we started.

We started talking using yahoo messenger and skype, it wasn't long before we fell in love and started thinking about getting married. What a silly thought! How can you even think of marrying someone you haven't even met in person? He could be a serial killer or some kind of psycho...

...

Now that I think about it... I was pretty stupid back then, I didn't care if he was a psycho or if he planned on going to my country and killing me or something. He's hot. I'll die happy. LOL

I also didn't think he would be thinking the same thing about me. That I was going to kill him and harvest his organs. (What the hell would I do with human organs?)

I had this plan on coming to work for the winter season to learn some english but after most of it was aligned, the plans fell through. When I told him that I wasn't going to be able to come, he said he would save money and go instead. So about a month (or 2) later, he had the money for the tickets and flew to Chile. He didn't know that to leave the US you have to have a return ticket so he had to buy one right there at the airport, so when we actually met... he had a few pennies and dimes in his pocket.
